Dr. Oberg graduated from the University of Alberta Medical School in 1983. He went on to have a successful medical practice in the rural community of Brooks, Alberta. In 1993 at the age of 33 he was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for the constituency of Bow Valley in Alberta. In 1997 he was appointed to cabinet as Minister of Social Services, followed by Minister of Learning in 1999, Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation in 2004 and Minister of Finance in 2006. Under his leadership the Alberta Learning system was ranked number 1 in the world in 2001 finishing first in the OECD PISA examinations. As Minister of Finance he was responsible for a $33 billion annual budget and an investment fund of $70 billion. Dr. Oberg made the decision not to seek re-election in 2008 and is presently the President and CEO of MultiGEN Diagnostics, a Multiplex Gene Sequencing company based in San Diego, California. Dr. Oberg brings to Curriki a wealth of experience as well as an unwavering belief in educational choice, online learning potential, and the importance of learning communities.
